10 Places Kids Can Volunteer in San Diego

I Love a Clean San Diego has a number of programs, from beach adoptions to huge, semiannual beach cleanup days. Animal lovers 14 and up can volunteer to help care for and nurture furry friends. Volunteers 6 and older can help with a variety of tasks such as inspecting, sorting, and packing food for distribution. Teens will learn about sustainable farming and the food system as they help with chores. Young children can’t volunteer in the fields, but they can assist with feeding animals and composting.

Volunteer as a family to help reclaim food pulled from grocery stores, repack bulk foods, sort and label, and help pack produce and staple items for delivery to children in need. Teens can volunteer to work in almost every area of the museum. Kids.The Surfrider Foundation San Diego County Chapter and San Diego Coastkeeper coordinate beach cleanups three times a month. The foundation also needs volunteers for special events, such as surf competitions. San Diego’s largest homeless services provider feeds and cares for nearly 2,000 people, from infants to seniors, every day.

Volunteers can help with homework, special events, serving meals, and sorting mail. Bring a board game, a care package, or a home-baked treat to share with a new friend.

The Children’s Home of Lubbock

The Children’s Home of Lubbock’s mission is to care for children and families in crisis. On any given day, some 80 children live on the campus. The campus, like any small community, has numerous jobs that must be done to keep things running smoothly. Volunteers and volunteer groups assist with daily tasks, special events, big projects, or by simply giving extra attention to the children. This is accomplished through hands-on work, prayers for our children, charity drives or other financial support.

Keep in mind that children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by adults. We try to limit the size of groups that work directly with the children to a number that does not overwhelm them. Larger groups may be asked to do large physical projects or may be divided into smaller work assignments. Groups that want to provide on-going service for a several days or a week are welcomed! Remember that, since we don’t have space to accommodate overnight stays, groups from outside the local area will be required to secure their own housing off-campus.

The Children’s Home of Lubbock is located one mile outside the east loop, on the Idalou Highway. We encourage you to call ahead to arrange a tour of the campus.

Opportunities for Kids to Volunteer

I’ve had a lot of parents ask me to do a feature on volunteer opportunities in Central Florida for kids and teens because they’re looking for opportunities for kids to volunteer. While there are many more opportunities than I could ever imagine, I’ve listed 10 of my favorite opportunities below. Some of those mentioned below are links to sites that can cover this topic far more extensively than I could, so I’ve simply shared the listing with you. If minimum ages were noted, I’ve included them. I can’t imagine a better way to teach your child about love, compassion, and giving back than to provide them with the opportunity to volunteer to those in need.

When the volunteering is done as a family, it can be even more special. If you do volunteer, please share images with us on our Facebook page. We’d love to see the good work our families are doing! Orange County Public Library for kids 13-17 who are Orange County residents. Check out additional upcoming volunteer events below: View More.

No matter which you choose for your kids or family, we know it will be a rewarding experience and we thank you for your service.
