Reading Partners – Volunteer Based Tutoring for Kids
Volunteering at SickKids presents exciting new learning opportunities and enriching experiences. Whether it be through direct or indirect interaction with patients and their families, you will help to improve the quality of care and the overall hospital experience. As a volunteer, you are an integral member of the SickKids team. We depend on volunteers to enhance the programs and services we offer and to assist staff in providing the finest standards of healthcare that align with our SickKids mission, vision and values. There are many ways to share your valued ‘Gift of Time’, while making a positive contribution to the Hospital.
We have a wide variety of volunteer programs and positions to suit your interests and your schedule. There are volunteer opportunities available with Volunteer Resources, the Women’s Auxiliary and by participating in clinical research at SickKids with Research4kids. The children and families we care for are diverse, and so are our volunteers. All are welcome to join our unique organizational culture and be part of our inclusive team.

Kids Beating Cancer
Kids Beating Cancer maintains the highest level of screening and training to ensure the safety of our families and volunteers. Undergo online check of the Department of Justice’s Sex Offender Registry. Potential volunteers ages 12-17 must have their parent/guardian complete and submit this form either to Kids Beating Cancer or via fax. Proof of valid state-issued photo ID. Volunteer Orientation: Volunteers that live within 30 miles of Kids Beating Cancer must attend an orientation session.
If you live outside of the 30-mile radius, you will receive an orientation via telephone. In some locations, volunteers will be required to wear Kids Beating Cancer t-shirts, purchased through Kids Beating Cancer. We’ve outsourced the volunteer background check to IntelliCorp, which provides a secure, paperless, web-based service. We would like to invite you to make a charitable donation to Kids Beating Cancer to help us offset these administrative costs. Once your volunteer application is accepted, you will be contacted.
Volunteer Services Birmingham, Alabama
We are grateful that you are considering becoming a volunteer. You will be joining over 1000 other individuals who volunteer at Children’s of Alabama each year. Please watch this 5 minute video to learn what volunteering is all about. The Department of Volunteer Services has three main components – Volunteers, Information Desks and Stations and the Gift Shoppe on Main. You should have a servant’s heart to be a successful volunteer.
While every person comes with a reason to volunteer, your primary purpose should be all about serving our patients and families. Volunteering is to provide the extras to patients, families, guests, employees and other volunteers. Certainly we hope you will volunteer for a much longer period of time. We offer volunteer programs for teens, college students and adults. We also have volunteers at the Children’s South location, just off the Acton Road exit of I-459.
Last year we had volunteers providing service all 365 days. The majority of volunteer opportunities are during business hours on weekdays.
Habitat for Humanity
Thank you for wanting to invest in the future with Habitat Youth Programs. That kind of idealism can be infectious, and when paired with tangible service, real change can occur. Understand the needs of others, particularly concerning poor living conditions versus safe, affordable housing.
Become involved in the strengthening of your own neighborhoods and communities. Participate in meaningful work resulting in a sense of accomplishment. Improve your own life and the lives of others in practical and long-lasting ways. Have fun in a way you may not have thought possible.
